BoilX is an effective boil treatment that gets to work straightaway. Unlike most other prescription medication and topical ointments, BoilX comes as a spray. By spraying it twice under the tongue as soon as a boil appears, its formulation of 7 powerful homeopathic ingredients is absorbed into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system. In this way, it tackles the pain and inflammation caused by the boil quickly and speeds healing time.
What Is a Boil?
A boil, also known as an abscess, is a deep skin infection which usually starts in the hair follicle or oil gland. Most boils are caused by bacteria called Staphylococcus, which enters the body through cuts or scrapes in the skin or by travelling down a hair into the follicle. Boils can also be caused by ingrown hairs, splinters or cystic acne.
A boil generally starts as a reddened, tender area. Over time it turns into a firm, painful lump. Eventually, the center of the boil softens and becomes filled with white pus. This pus is actually a collection of bacteria, proteins and white blood cells that the body has sent to fight the infection.
Skin boils most commonly occur on the face, neck, underarms, shoulders and buttocks.
Boils Treatment
Most boils can be treated safely at home. Ideally, the treatment should begin as soon as a boil is noticed in order to start the healing process.
Heat application, by means of a hot compress or a warm shower, is highly recommended. This increases circulation to the area and allows the body to fight off infection by bringing antibodies and white blood cells to the infected site.
When the boil is small and firm, openiing and draining the boil will have no benefit. However, once the boil has softened and formed a head, it can be drained. A significant reduction in pain is often experienced once a boil has been drained.
Types of Boils
In addition to the common boil described above, there are several other types of boil. It is important to have an awareness of these as they can cause complications and should always be referred to a healthcare professional.
Furuncle or Carbuncle – an abscess in the skin caused by the Staphylococcus Aureus bacteria. Unlike the common boil, a furuncle can have one or more openings and can be accompanied by a fever or chills. A carbuncle is essentially a cluster or network of boils.
Cystic Acne – formed when oil ducts become clogged and infected. Cystic acne affects deeper skin tissue than common acne, which generally only creates superficial inflammation. Cystic acne is most common on the face and typically occurs in the teenage years.
Hidradenitis Suppurativa – a condition characterized by a group of abscesses that form under the armpits or in the groin area. Local inflammation of the sweat glands in these areas caused the boils to form and they are, in actual fact, very difficult to treat. Often, a surgical procedure is required to remove the sweat glands involved and stop the skin inflammation.
Pilandial Cyst – a unique kind of abscess that occurs in the crease of the buttocks. Pilondial cysts often begin as tiny areas of infection in the base of the hair follicles in the area. With irritation from direct pressure, the inflammed area enlarges over time to become a firm, painful and tender nodule that makes it difficult to sit without discomfort. Pilondial cysts often form after long trips that involve prolonged sitting.
